The 60-day rule
Disney table-service restaurants open reservations 60 days ahead at 6am Eastern, which is 11am UK time. The famous ones are gone in minutes.
The ones that actually go instantly:
- Space 220 (EPCOT) — the lift to the "space station". The gimmick is the point.
- Cinderella's Royal Table (Magic Kingdom) — inside the castle, princesses, extremely expensive.
- 'Ohana (Polynesian) — the family-style Hawaiian one people book trips around.
- Topolino's Terrace breakfast (Riviera) — the best character breakfast, by some distance.
- Be Our Guest (Magic Kingdom) — the Beast's castle.
For a 12 August arrival, your window opens on 13 June.
The on-property advantage
If you're staying at a Disney resort, at 60 days from your check-in date you can book the entire stay at once. Off-site, you book each day 60 days ahead of that individual day — meaning you're competing every single morning for a fortnight. This is the single biggest practical perk of staying on-property.
Tactics
On the day the window opens:
- Set an alarm for 10:50am UK. Be logged into My Disney Experience already — not logging in, logged in.
- Have your party size and dates set before the clock hits.
- Book the hard ones first, in priority order. You can always adjust times later.
- Two adults on two phones booking different restaurants doubles your hit rate.
If you miss out:
Cancellations drop constantly. Disney charges a $10 per person no-show fee, and the cancellation deadline is the day before — so the hours around midnight Eastern are when tables reappear. Check at 7am, 1pm and 9pm daily and you'll get most of what you wanted. People cancel; it works far more often than it sounds.
Universal
Much easier. Most Universal table service can be booked a few weeks out, and several of the good ones take walk-ups. The exceptions worth planning:
- Toothsome Chocolate Emporium (CityWalk) — book it.
- Leaky Cauldron and Three Broomsticks — no reservations, just queue; go at 11am or 3pm, never 1pm.
Quick service
No reservations needed, but Mobile Order in the app is not optional in August. Order 30–45 minutes before you're hungry, from wherever you're queueing, and collect when it pings. Ordering at 12:30 for 12:35 gets you a 40-minute wait; ordering at 11:45 for 12:30 gets you a table.
Once you've booked, pin each reservation to the right day in this planner (booking type: Dining) and the optimiser will build the rest of the day around it.
